Teamsters Credit Union was founded in 1968, but can trace its history to the first moments of the union itself.
Robert “Bobby” Holmes, who created the financial institution to serve Teamsters and their families, was a confidant of a young Jimmy Hoffa — and the two of them organized a strike in 1931 that led to the creation of the union we know today.
Until 1989, Bobby Holmes served Teamsters International vice president, director of the Central Conference and president of Teamsters Local 337 in Detroit. He died in February 2006.
In June 2012, the credit union expanded its charter from segment-based (union members only) to community-based, which opened the institution to membership from throughout Wayne County.
Manager Bobby Walters joined the credit union in 1979. Today, the $13 million credit union has more than 2,400 members.
Our volunteer Board of Directors are members themselves, elected to office by their fellow Teamsters Credit Union members.
